Barnes triple shock for deer's
Winchester 180 grain soft point & Federal Fusion 180 grain for bigger animal's (got the piston with the grove just for this larger bullet wieght)
For long range shooting I am using;
Barnes Super premium MRX features a Delrin tip,
flatter trajectory and greater retained energy
at longer range. Tungsten core aids ballistic
performance, accuracy. Retains virtually
100% of original weight.
150 grain were good but my rifle loves the 165 grain and my bolt gun absolutly loves the 180 grain.

so far i have only used speer 168gr HPBT as I got the same price on them as I would've on 150gr...

It really was a no brainer

Federal 150 gr Power Shoks are the cheapest, most accurate (1.5moa) shooting cartridges in my M14. They would be good for deer hunting. However, I used Federal 150 Vital shoks (Nosler ballistic tips) for deer hunting and they performed fine. They also grouped accurately at 200 yards (small test, but not extensive as the ammo is too expensive to shoot alot with) with a trajectory that matched the ballistic markings on my Burris FFII scope, so I preferred them for hunting, thinking I might need to take a shot at 200.

You have to work up the load for your rifle.
For hunting, use a 165 grain hunting bullet. A 150 will do for deer sized game, but a 165 will kill any game you care to hunt.
For precision, use a 168 grain match bullet for distances out to 600 yards. A 175 grain match bullet past there. Both with IMR4064 and regular large rifle primers.
If you're not reloading(you will be sooner or later), you'll have to try a box of as many brands as you can to find the ammo your rifle shoots best.

urbaneddy....the AMAX actually shoot well in your rifle? I wonder just because the shot horribly in mine. Probably about 8 inch groups. I'm having much better success with the SST bullets. As funny as it is the cheap Federal Power shoks actually give me about a 2.5" group at 100yards.
