Was cruising through one of the recent posts on the CC, that mentioned Bullpups as being prohibited.

Yet clearly we've now got many wonderful options of NR bullpups in many calibers and price points.

Years ago, bullpups were a dream, and unobtainium...

What let's them now be available and NR?

Bullpup stocks are prohibitted and maybe a few named guns like the Calico or Famae, Aug, SA80 etc.. that were around during C68.
You'll find most designed after 98 are your NR bps.

So a stock that turns a barrel chamber forward of trigger, to a rear of trigger is a prohibited accessory?

Yes. If the firearms can be shot without the part that makes it a bullpup, that "part" is a prohibited bullpup stock. I believe the Walter G22 was one that got in and was then prohibited because it was just a plastic shell that made it into a bullpup.

It's a fecking miracle from God.

Enjoy it while you can.

A bullpup stock added to a conventional barreled action is a prohibited device.
For example, Mossberg marketed a shotgun which had a standard M500 barreled action assembled in a plastic bullpup stock/housing. Stock is prohibited, not the barreled action. Assemble it with a conventional buttstock and forend, and it is just another shotgun.
The intent of the law was to prohibit the aftermarket bullpup conversion stocks that were appearing.
A bullpup firearm is legal, unless it is a named prohibited firearm. The ergonomic features of a legal bullpup firearm are functional, structural parts of the firearm, so are not a "stock" by themselves.
What does the future hold for the current non-restricted rifles and shotguns? Have to wait and see.

Bullpups being legal was purely an accident.

When the law was written;
They banned every bullpup rifle currently on the market, and also banned bullpup conversion stocks.

But the wording of the law left an opening for new bullpup rifles to enter the market.

AUG, FAMAS, etc., all named. The aftermarket stocks for 10/22s, Minis et al prohibited. But no general prohibition of bullpups.

Centerfire semi auto barrel more than 18.5": check.
OAL longer than minimal OAL for NR: check.
Firearm doesn't have any features that would make it prohib (like selective fire): check
Firearm isn't specifically mentioned as R/P in legislature: check.

Firearm is nowhere close to being considered and "AR" variant: double-super-mega check

Firearm is NR according to the legislature.

Italics for shady classification bs
