Hey all,
Recently it seems, everyone and their mothers are develloping and fielding bullpups rifles. Croatia, Israel, Britain, French, Austria, just to name a few. Do you think it really is the future in combat arms, or just a trend? Are conventional rifles going to all be replaced or do you think they'll always have a way around?

Hard to say. The French FAMAS and the Austrian Steyr have been around for quite some time as has the British Enfield L85. Personally I think its a fad. Only time will tell but the negatives of a bullpup outweigh the gain(or decrease) in overall length IMO.

As I am considering a Tavor, I would be most interested in what those "negatives" are. Thanks.

As mentioned, magazine reloads can be difficult. The inability to rapidly change shoulders(or shooters) without eating brass. My personal pet peeve is the fixed length of pull. Everyone fits a rifle differently, especially with different clothing such as cold weather gear, and/or body armour and chest rigs.

Depending on how you're trained, viewing the ejection port during malfunction drills or even administratively can be a problem. Lastly, I'm not too comfortable with the chamber that close to my face. If my rifle is going to detonate I want to see it, not feel it.

They look cool. Buy one of each make that is readily available in Canada.
Trend or no trend, they tend to freak people out. More reason to buy 'em.

I think that most people in the infantry would agree that the C7 can sometimes be a pain in griffons/LAVs, etc. I used a C8 in Afghan so I didn't have any issues but the extra few inches on the barrel plus being shorter OAL would be interesting to compare. I'll just have to wait for my Tavor to show up.

Ya it was a joke. But seriously, I thought all black guns were fully automatic and therefore prohib? :)
