Well I just got back yesterday from South Africa. I was surprised to find out that Back40Sniper was joining us on the hunt. I'd never met him before, but he knew me as the man, the myth, the moustache. I thought I'd give you guys a few shots of the trip.

Half way from Johannesburg to camp, look at who's grazing along the fence alongside the road.

Big Doug who was our safari consultant, and his White Blesbok. Apparently White is the dominant colour for blesbok.

What an amazing trip. I'm sure Back40Sniper will tell you the same thing. Every hunter owes it to themself to hunt Africa at least once. I know I'll be going back.

We were there for 12 days of hunting in total.

You can't bring the meat back, but the animals are all being done into shoulder mounts and tanned back skins, except the zebra which is a rug.

Back40sniper was using his BRNO 602 in 375 H&H and 270 gr TSX. I used my Ruger M77 Magnum in 416 Rigby using 350 gr X Bullets (not TSX). We both had 300 WM rifles as second guns but aside from sighting them in we didn't take them out of the cases.

No lions...too much money. We stuck to plains game, though we're already talking about a buffalo hunt.

That exactly what happened to me as well. I took a .375 and 300 Win Mag and only shot the .300 to check the sights. For the animals I took it would have worked just fine, but it couldn't have done anything better than the three-seven-five with 270 grain TSXs. In July I'll take the .375 and 416 Rigby to RSA and Zim to introduce them to a couple buffalo amoung other things.

Actually a SA plainsgame hunt is actually cheaper than an Alaskan Kodiak/Grizzly Hunt or Alaska-Yukon Moose Hunt in most cases.

Great pics BUM! Looks like you an Back40Sniper had a ball over there. I've been wanting to go since I was 15. One of these days I'm going to have my shot at a big 'ol Dugga Boy!

How did you find the accommodations, food, etc...? How about the heat? Any problems acclimating? What about your choice in footgear? Did you guys do much walking, or was it mostly spot from the truck and then short stalks? What kind of trophy fees did you guys get charged with?
