I have a batch of this powder. I know years back I loaded for my M1 Garand in 30-06. Can't find my sheets of info that came with the order.

If some can shed some light, I'll be forever grateful.

Thanks in advance for any help. :)

I think it is similar to 3031. Load a couple rounds with that assumption and check the velocity.

If it has a fireball, it is surplus powder made for the 303.

I had a few jugs of it and it went bad. Ate a hole in my steel shelving.

My old newspaper from Ammomart [Now Higginson's] suggests that it is close to BLC-2, possibly a wee bit faster.
I would take BLC-2 starting loads, reduce them a couple of grains, and work up from there. Dave.

I was told it was 44 that was the surplus powder for .303 that didn't make the cut because of the flash. Hmm. Well, anyway, 44 works fine.

Edit: Thanks Eagleye and Ganderite!

At the time Nobel 44N was available, Higginson recommended reducing IMR 3031 load data by 6% when loading this powder. I particularly liked 44N in the 6,5 X 55 Swede, with moderate loads. Very accurate, with 85 grain Sierra hollow points. My favourite cartridge and bullet for pasting big Ontario groundhogs. I believe Eagleye is correct...46N was closer to BLC2 for burn rate. No longer have the data sheet for this powder. But it was a bit faster, as I recall. The flash and blast from that powder was truly something to experience. We used to reckon that if the bullet missed, the ensuing fireball would incinerate any critter unlucky enough to get in the way.
