are these scopes any good compared to a bushnell elite or leupold, where are they made? how about service in Canada?

They are typically made in the phillipines. I have the 3-9x40 with ballistic plex on my M14, so it gives hash marks to roughly compensate for non-magnums out to 500 yards. They have nice finger adjustable dials under the caps with an alignment mark that is to rear, so you see if from the shooters perspective when you adjust. Adjustments seem firm and positive. The eyepiece turns to set the magnification. This means you can't use pop up caps as the cap would rotate. I'm not a real conniseur of optics, so I'm not going to tell you my opinion is particularly sophisticated on the quality of optics. I'm certainly happy with the sharpness of image and brightness of it. Worked well for my hunting purposes and its holding zero for shooting targets. I see no reason why the optics should be considered any different than my Leupold VXII and they can be had for considerably cheaper. Fit and finish looks good, so I'd say the only area I'd still seek answers on is ability to withstand recoil and service policy in Canada. They sell them at Wholesale sports, so they should have service available to Canada, whether its here or not, I'd like to know.

I just got a 3-9x40 with ballistic plex for my 223. When I got it I was comparing it in the store to a bushnell elite and a leupold vx111. With out a doubt the vx111 was the most clear to look through and the best scope there( also the most expensive). I thought the bushnell and the burris were on the same level as far as clarity but I liked the ballistic plex reticle better, not to mention it was a few bucks cheaper so that is what I went with.

Now that I have used it for a while I wish that I would have got anything else other than a burris. Whan you go to adjust the power, the whole eye piece turns. I didn't notice it in the store but once it is mounted on the gun, you can grab that piece and wiggle it ever so slightly. When you do that while you are looking through it you can see the reticle move in relation to whatever it is you are looking at through the scope.

I don't know what anyone else thinks about being able to move a reticle by touching the out side of the scope but imo that makes it junk that is not worth the cost of the box it is sold in.

Do yourself a favour and get something else.

Sounds like you have a warranty issue on your hands there. They do warrant their scopes for life.

I for one, have no problem buying and using Burris scopes. They rate right up there with Leupold for quality, clarity and ruggedness in my books. I have owned several and have never had issues with any of them.....

I've owned at least four Burris Fullfield II scopes and never had any trouble with any of them. They're made in the Phillipines on American equipment so, the move was to reduce labour cost, not quality.

Quality-wise I would put them between the Bushnell 3200 and 4200 (probably closer to the 4200 series). The older Leupold Vari-X II is superior IMHO, so is any more current/upgraded offerings from Leupold (VXII or better).

While Leupold, Zeiss or Swaro are superior, the Burris is no slouch and excellent value for a fraction of the money.

I have one on my .270wsm so it gets a bit of recoil. Always holds a zero and I never had a problem with it. Glass is very clear, I find it more clear then a 3200 and if you can find one on EE for 200 to 250 why the hell not buy it(especially because they warranty for life) ! I would and will buy burris again.
