I've started looking at scope choices for my AR and stumbled across this combo with the PEPR mount and a Fastfire 3. How is the quality of the scope? I have also looked at the Vortex Strike Eagle but that seems to have a lot of distortion at 1x. I would probably be taking the Fastfire off and mounting that onto a new handgun, maybe a Walther PPQ Q5. Any other good choices for a 1-Nx24 scope? Looking to spend no more than $800 for the optic and mount. Would be used for 3 gun and general plinking. I have a Holosun red dot now but looking for more range.

So I ended up going with the MTAC 1-4x24 combo with the PEPR mount and Fastfire 3. Found it for $735 shipped. The glass seems really clear and Burris seems to have addressed the issues from the Fullfield TAC30. I kept looking at the Strike Eagle but I just can't get over the distortion on the low end. I will update this thread with some pictures if anyone wants.

Please do, very interested in seeing the clarity, distortion(or lack of), etc.

I have both of the scopes that you mention and prefer the reticle on the Vortex over the one on the Burris. There is no doubt that the Burris is a decent tactical scope and you can use it with hold overs quite easily but the centre dot is too many MOA in my opinion as it obscures targets. I use it with the fast fire on top and think that it's a good value. Just prefer crosshairs...

Thanks for the input. I wanted a dot reticle as this one will be used for 3-gun in addition to plinking. I just needed a bit more range. Also my astigmatism makes the Holosun's dot more of a blur. The etched reticle will fix that.
