I'm trying to pick an optic for an XCR and have narrowed down my choices to the above two scopes. I'm not looking to spend over 500$ I don't think.

Anyone have thoughts on one or the other?

Quality of glass?
Field of view?
Reticle?
Etc.

I have the CMR on my AR. I really like it, glass is excellent. The reticle is very useful, has the bullet drop compensation out to 900yds. The zero stop feature is also very useful. I've only used it to 300 and its accurate. I don't have any experience with the Burris though.

I also have two CMR scopes on the way. I looked at a bunch of the alternatives and decided based on the review that the CMR would be a decent purchase. The Vortex was also a contender but the price was a lot more. Unfortunately I won't know first hand if these scopes are good until the rest of my order comes in.

The CMR is quite nice. I have one, the biggest downside is the glowing reticle completely washes out the scope picture in low light or darkness, even on lower settings, it's either to dim, or it's bright enough to wash out your view. It a great optic for the price, but cheap is cheap. What do you expect for $500 bux I think it's a sweet optic.

Really? Maybe mine is different somehow but I've never experienced any reticle washout in dark situations always very clear no matter how bright I have it set. But yes for the price it as a no brainer.

I can't decide between the two reticles, the Burris almost looks too thick for precision shooting but good for close range, the CMR almost seems too "busy" for quick targets but looks like it may be ok for long range. I have no idea why the horizontal hash marks expand out so far, it would take a lot of range and wind to need it all

Let me be clear, I work for Wolverine Supplies so I may be biased, but I have a CMR and I personally think it is the best bang for the buck in the price range you are looking at. After looking at the alternatives, it was a no brainer for me.

The Burris reticle seems to favor close in CQB target use, while the CMR reticle favors longer range targets.

When I had my Burris, and needed precision, I just used the smaller dot underneath the big central dot.

I did some reading about the CMR reticle awhile ago and the idea behind the 2 horse shoe lines around the dot is supposed to help your eye focus quicker on the centre dot. I do agree though there's a lot of horizontal marks but you could always use those for hold overs when shooting long range laying on your side from underneath a car. Makes sense to me :D

There's also a great review here http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=648722&highlight=CMR

Already watched it. I'm leaning towards the CMR but haven't completely decided yet again, it's the reticle choice.

Unfortunately I can't just drive 5 minutes from my house and try both.

I use the Burris and the Millett. Both are 1-4 zoom scopes with 30mm tubes. Both have illuminated reticles.

The Burris has a brighter illumination for daylight shooting - but in daylight I much prefer the black ring.

The main difference is the reticle (and cost- Burris is $100 more.)

For CQB, the big ring of the Burris is excellent.

The Millet has a smaller ring with a tiny little dot in the middle. For CQB the small ring is used like a big dot and works well.

Whichever scope you buy, the Burris PEPR scope base and ring is first class.

For precision shooting off the bench, say when zeroing or checking ammo loads, the tiny little dot in the Millet is very good for precision aiming.

The Norc has the Millet, making it my best bang (and hit) for the buck gun.

any chance you could post a picture of the MTAC reticle? I am now leaning that way for my build as I see one of our local sponsors sells the MTAC, PEPR and Fast FireII as a package deal but cant seem to find a clear picture of the reticle.
