Just got my rings and base in from LeBaron's. The Standard Burris Dovetail ring will not twist into the Burris universal dovetail base.....????

Has anyone ever had a problem with the dovetails not being manufactured to proper tolerances....? This thing will not twist in, even with a wrench...
It appears that the dovetail is slightly too thick.

Anyone ever have similar problems or experience with dovetail rings?

Advise? I might see if i can have a buddy machine the dovetail down to fit...I shouldn't have to do this but do not plan on returning it to LeBaron's...

Burris standard mount rings are not built as precisely as Leupold so you often get a binding problem when turning the front ring in. Use grease and a Leupold ring wrench and try again. If it still dose not turn then carefully remove some material on the dovetail portion with a file( a little bit at a time). Phil.

Thanks Phil
I contacted Burris and explained the situation. They told me that at times when they change to a new die, the dovetails can possibly be out of spec. or have burrs and they would gladly exchange them.

To me, one side of the dovetail clearly appeared to be much thicker than the other....so I gently filed it and filed it and filed it. It isn't gonna do it...both Burris and LeBaron's told me to return for refund, which I plan on doing.

I am sticking to weaver bases and rings from now on....right or wrong, Burris Dovetails left a nasty taste in my mouth....I wouldn't recommend Burris Standard Dovetail Rings.

I am also not confident with how Burris matches up bases to rifles....the bases they suggested both verbally and on their website were not correct for my Savage Model 14. It is confusing enough as it is, I don't need to be misled by the "experts".

Sorry Burris, start doing your job.

Thats why we almost always use Leupold rings and bases for standard mount applications. We usually use Burris only when 1. we run out of Leupold, 2. we need the signature inserts to adjust for windage or elevation. Standard mount Leupold monuts are the most common mounting system we use for any application due to the ability to adjust windage without using much of the scopes internal adjustments. This way the end user has more adjustment available in the field when sighting in. We use several hundred Leuopld rings and bases in a year and almost never have a problem. Phil.

I had the exact opposite problem with a set of Leupold rings. The ring fit so loose that I could flick it with my finger and it would spin like a top. Leupold base, Leupold rings, everything new. I took everything back, tried a different set of rings and everything was fine. They are still on one of my .300s.
