Hi I am looking for a new scope for a hunting rifle. What do you think of a burris veracity vs a Leupold VX5. I understand they are at different prices points my question is which do you prefer and is it worth it to shell out the extra money for Leupold name?

The Veracity scored a perfect 10 in trackiing according to an article I read. The glass is better than the XTR II in my opinion (I owned both) and is great for the price. The Burris scopes are big, but not sure how they compare to the Leupold. You won't go wrong with either but the Leopold will have better resale value.

Leupolds are like the Hondas or Toyotas of scopes. They generally work well, have few problems, are easy to sell and have excellent re-sale value :stirthepot2:

I would add that Leupold's lieftime warranty is handled by Korth Canada, which is known to be excellent. Not that you should worry about having issues with a Leupold scope in the first place.

Burris scopes are good value for dollar. Forever warranty that ive never had to use is a big plus too. I switched to burris about 10 years ago from being the "only leupold guy" and ive not been disappointed.

Many years ago I bought a new Leupold Vari-X 111 6.5-20x40. After about 10 years I sent it to Leupold and had it changed to a fine dupex and target turrets. It served me very well with no issues of any sort until about 10 years ago when I dropped the gun ( First time but it happened). Sent the scope to Korth and exactly 10 days from the day I sent it, a brand new VX-3 6.5-20x40 c/w fine dupex and target turrets arrived. This is my definition of "excellent". Been using Leupolds forever and that is the first and only time I have ever had a "problem" with one. Actually just bought another one last week.

I like Leupold for hunting. They are very durable, compact, lightweight and are always bright and clear. Lots of other scopes that are just as bright and clear if not more so but they usually don’t bring together all of the above features into one reasonably priced unit.

Opinions differ on "excellent ".

Bought a cheap 2nd hand Leupold with a jammed focus adjustment ring and a very rough power adjustment ring. Sent it to Korth for warranty repair. Got it back a few weeks later all repaired. Excellent service.

The only better no-questions-asked warranty service that I have experienced was with an old pair of rubber armoured porro-prism Swarovski 10X binoculars that had finally gone out of collimation after many years of rough service. I took them into Red Deer to a camera shop that sold Swarovski. They sent them to somewhere in Ontario, who then sent them to Austria. About a month later, they came back all repaired and cleaned. No charge. No questions asked.

The worst warranty service I have experienced was with Steiner. Never again.
