Burris XTR Xtreme Tactical 1.5-6x40mm Illuminated XTR Ballistic 7.62 Riflescope help.

I have an opportunity to pickup of of these bad boys, I'm thinking of mounting it on an AR type rifle in .223. As this is a 7.62 calibrated scope i'm pretty much wasting money, yes/no? What's a good deal on one of these?

Also how does it compare to Vortex Viper PST 1-4?

I am not really a fan of BDC scopes, if you ever wanted to put those optics on anything other then that caliber they area waste of money, besides different loads, barrel lengths, etc change everthing anyway. I would personally get the pst 1-4 because you will be able to use it on anything and with a little practice you will easily be able to know accurate holdover on that scope/rifle combo, besides it gives you an excuse to go shoot it.

It's not worth any were the near the 1k that they ask for.

The XTR14 has a .223 BDC reticle. It would be more realistic to compare this one to the Vortex you're talking about.
