Yesterday I took loan of a Marlin 30AS that was handed down to a friend of mine.
Somewhere in time the factory butt plate was replaced with a recoil pad which was very poorly fitted.
Since I didn't have handy a plate or pad that would work, I decided to fab one up out of black walnut.
The first attempt (with checkering) ended up a touch on the small side, the stock is proud in one spot.
Not happy with the fit or the checkering, I made up a second paying more attention to the scribed line while sanding it out.
Good from far, far from good...but a lot better than what was there to begin with.
