What are your thoughts on bushing the bolt ( front and back or just the back)? Is it worth it for the cost of getting it done? Is there other options out there? Does it make that big of a differance? I have heard both side from a few guy's and just wondering what you think. Thanks for the info.

Probably

not worth it.

You are never going to get BENCHREST accuracy out of a factory gun. If it is used as a varmint gun in the field it may cause you trouble because of the tighter tolerances.

The other option is getting a new aftermarket bolt from Dave Kiff and have it fit to your gun instead of the bushing.

All in all you ultimately have ot decide for yourself. You will NEVER get back what you put into a factory gun.

You would be better off instead of putting the money into the factory buying one of the cheaper aftermarket actions like the Predator and numerous others out there and building off of it.

Just my thoughts.

It is very doubtful you will be able to measure any difference in accuracy. It's a nice project to do for yourself but if you are paying to have it done... it probably isn't cost effective.

If a bolt is REAL loose, the improvemnt may be demonstrable. In most cases, it is not.
Taking a Remington action as a "for instance", the availability of reasonably priced replacement bolts makes the practice questionable if you are paying for it.
On a Savage, the trigger/ striker design minmizes the deflection of the bolt by the sear contact so a sloppy bolt is less a problem.
For what it may be worth; on a good shooting 40x in 6 PPC, bushing the bolt was good for about a .040 moa improvement in vertical dispersion. On a Winchester M70 in 6.5x55, I can't honestly say it made any difference at all. Regards, Bill.
