I saw a Bushnell 1-4 ar scope at my local gun store for $229 and you get a $30 rebate. It has like 11 stages of brightness. I'm thinking of putting it on my jr carbine 9mm. Would this be a good choice of optic?

I would double check the model. There are two Bushnell AR Optics 1-4x24 scopes:

1 - the AR91424 - 1-4x24mm - which is the non-illuminated, second focal plane model, and
2 - AR91424I - 1-4x24mm Throw Down PCL - which is the illuminated, first focal plane model.

Based on the price you quoted, sounds like the AR91424. If they are selling the AR91424I for that price, that's an exceptional deal.

I have both of those in stock, priced at $209 and $319 respectively. In fact, with the AR91424I, I have promo packs that include Millet rings and 20 Bushnell targets for the same price ($319).

The AR Optics scopes have proven to be unbeatable value for money. I have sold many of the various models without a single complaint or warranty issue, and many repeat buyers.

Feel free to PM with any questions.

No, it has a illuminated ridicule. I had 11 brightness's. There was one there for cheaper without the illuminated ridicule.

What did you switch to?

Leupold Mark AR Mod 1: 1-4x20. Way nicer clarity and it's 9.4 ounces. Pair that with an Aero Precision mount at 3.4 ounces and you're still lighter then the Bushnell by 4 ounces. Now when I see pics of people with a Bushy AR scope and a PEPR mount (1.6 pounds combined) I laugh.

As soon as I took the Bushnell 1-4 out of the package I knew I had screwed up: forgot to look up the weight specs. People may think that it doesn't make a difference, but feel it back to back, or just weigh your rifle and it starts to become clear.

I love my 1-4 with throw down PCL....... however bushnell sent me a rebate check (from the USA) and the bank won't cash it as they say it isn't an actual check.....tried contacting bushnell and no reply. So be warned. I put mine on a PEPR mount and it's good to go.

I have an AR 1-4 throwdown. It's not bad for the money, other than the sh!tty reticle.
1x, it's too small, 4x, it's too thick.

1x is closer to 1.3, somewhat normal in that budget.
The lever is nice for function but leaves scratches on the scope.

I looked at the AR scopes for my Beretta Cx4, and in the end it came to the reticle: I had no use for a an over-complicated sight that includes bullet drop markings for .223 cal on a 9mm carbine that I'm going to shoot mostly below 100m.

I went for a 1-4x24 Vortex Crossfire II with the V-brite reticle: a simple duplex with an illuminated dot in the middle.

That vortex is a option. I can't afford to drop like $500 for the Leupold. The one thing I liked about the Bushnell is the fact that it actually absorbs light. In a darkish environment, I was actually able to see clearly.

What distance and purpose do you plan on shooting the JRC?

I don't expect to ever shoot my Thureon Defense 9mm Carbine beyond 100 yards, so I put an Aimpoint PRO on it. The benefits of using a true red dot, out weigh the lack of magnification.

Vortex Sparc is a good choice for more affordable than Aimpoint.

How so? I have astigmatism and have never had any trouble with red dots. I'm told my cross hairs aren't perfectly level but they look fine to me. I still prefer scopes over red dots

Some of us have it worse then others... :)

Red dots aren't really an option for those of us with astigmatism though.

Exactly why I hate Eotech and RDS, Looks like a big blurry donut.. lol...

My Spectec DR's dot is super crisp, and most scopes with illuminated reticles are nice to look at.

The worst part about it, is trying to focus iron sights... I cant do it to save my life...

I get a smudge and doubling of the dot. I'd love to try out a Spectre DR but I can't find anyone that will pay me enough for my left nut. I can do iron sights just fine and prism scopes like the Vortex Spitfire work as well.
