Just wanted to get some opinions on the 4200 Elite Tactical Scope, I'm Using it on my Steyr HS50. ....... Quality, Durability, etc. etc. One day I will get a US optics scope or a nightforce but for now this is all i could afford, Also I wanted to know if there was another comparable brand of scope that matches up to the bushnell 4200 tac., ie price, quality etc. etc. Let me know Thanks

Optics are top quality, as is the construction, the big turrets are a really nice addition as is the side paralax, the only downfall is it only has 50moa. All in all in my opinion it is a fantastic scope, a buddy has one and loves it.

A few years back, Nightforce (or more correctly Lightforce) got their scopes made at the same place that made the Elites for decades so that gives you an idea on the Elite quality.

The tactical that I owned had superb tracking equal to any and better then some mega dollar scopes. You can follow the link in my sig line to my article/post with the test results and pics. This scope didn't need to two step polka to change the settings.

The optics up to 20X is superb. At 24X you loose just a hint of resolution but still enough to see dust kicked up from a 80gr amax at 1 mile. Yeah, I am pretty picky about my glass.

The side focus work very well without the lash problems that at least one US manf is suffering from. The quick eye focus is a really nice feature. Decent eye relief too.

I have no doubt that it will live happily on your Steyr. You can use the full adjustment range so shim the scope and maybe use the reticle for your close range shooting. Then you have the full scope travel and reticle to shoot much further.

Should be able to go out to around 1500yds with reticle and turrents.

From the Steyr that was at the Summerland shoot this spring, I would suggest you add wider deflectors on the back of that brake. The dust and concussion back to the shooter was pretty stiff and no where as good as other brakes. The recoil control was great. Just the concussion wasn't.

We figured adding another 1.5" on each side would really make the shooting experience more enjoyable. Big wings...

For a bit more money, I have been very impressed with the new Sightron SIII LR 6X24 scope with mildots. There is double the adj range and the optics is very very good at 24X. Clear enough to see the texture on the bricks/mortar on a chimney 1100yds away. If not as good as a S&B, it is awfully close.

You just loose a bit of resolution at either end of the elevation/windage travel.

This is a scope that works best when centered for windage like all scopes with very large internal adjustments. PM me if interested.

I bought one a year ago, had it on my 6BR at the first of the year. Loved the scope, it's sitting ontop of an AR now.
I've switched to the NightForce now on two of mine but only because of a change in budget, still love the 6-24x50 Tactical.
Just talked my buddy into one as well.

love it.

got a friend with one, like mystic says, they are clear and track well, the only thing i personally do not like about it is the thick crosshairs. compared to my nightforce it is very hard to see 1/2 moa targets, basically you just see the outside corners, where as with the nightforce you literally see the whole target...the reticle almost disappears when you focus on the target. for the money they are awesome ( the bushnell), i think of them as the next step below the nightforce as far as dollars go. in between the $800 and $1800 there aren't really any scopes that offer much more, except for the leupolds with their greater verticle adj.

Do yourself a favour: be patient, save up and get the best scope you can find; do it once and do it right.

Just my humble opinion (and my personal experience; couldn't be happier).

You won't be any more accurate with a NF/LF, USO, etc, if that's what you mean. Though the difference in resolution is noticeable, it's more a luxury than anything else. Repeatability, durability, etc - is no better or worse between them all.

And though the warantee might be a bit better on the higher-end scopes, keep in mind you can buy three 4200's for the price of one of them, and have TWO backups to use while you're waiting on bushnell's repair centre (should you ever need to).

Don't get me wrong, using a luxury scope is awesome; it's like a visual orgy for your eyes. But, it won't make you shoot any better.

Actually, there now is. Been playing with the new Sightron SIII LR 6X24 and these have amazing optics at 24X. Equal to or better then any NF I have looked through. I feel they are right up there with S&B.

100mins of internal movement. Mildots but that does mean a fairly thick reticle. Great mechanicals and side focus.

Just a bit more money then the Bushnell tacticals.

PM me if interested.

i have read a little about the sightron, the are quite popular in the states, lots of happy people. do they offer any thing in a minute type reticle as opposed to the mil dots?. how fine are the crosshairs on them?

I believe the target dot reticles are thin and sized for BR shooters. You can check at sightron.com for specs. They list reticle subtension.

As demand warrants, they will consider other reticles. I would love for a picket fence reticle but am happy with mil dots for now.
