I have an opportunity under the bushnell warranty to upgrade to a brand new 6500 scope (not tactical). I am looking at the 6500 4.5-30 with MD Reticle (50 MOA elevation) and the 2.5-16x42 (80 MOA Elevation) in either MD or Fine Duplex. The 2.5-16 would be make a great hunting rifle scope, and the fine duplex seems ok for that - likely end up on a prairie dog rig. The 4.5 -30 will have the MD, and I can play with the subtension to read the MD in 2 MOA increments (@19-ish Power, so MOA/MOA), which I would use for more target shooting and steel gongs at LR. With the 4.5-30, can I zero at 100 m with a 20 MOA base ? Any thoughts on what would be a better scope, and perhaps more desireable considering it may be up for sale, unopened, new in box at the best price on the market ? Pros and Cons for each ? Thanks

I'm using a Bushnell 6500 4.5-30x50 Tactical on a 20 moa rail, in 10 moa rings. I'm zeroed at 100 with 1 moa to go. Clarity suffers at anything under 300 yards or so, but that's the price you pay.

From the reviews I read, magnification is particularly poor and fuzzy near 30x.

I have the 2.5-16x (tactical, basically bigger knobs and black paint), and the 16x is plenty sufficient with my .308 in conjunction with a 20MOA EGW rail.

YMMV, of course.

I just got a Bushnell Elite Tactical 4.5-30X50 and find it pretty good so far. I will be using it on on the 1000 yds pretty soon and will let you know how it hold's up. I am in the process of looking for a new rail with MOA as well for my savage 12 F/TR.

I'm looking at one of these scopes right now I had an older bushnell and its all messed up wont max zoom now but I heard they fixed there problems and the new scopes are way better. I wanna get a scope I can grow Into per say start learning longer distance shooting

Having had the chance to compare a 4.5 - 3- x 50 against my 2.5 - 16 x 42 (2 of them) both MD's, I would recommend a 2.5 - 16. One on my .260 Remington and the other on a 700V in 25-06.
