I was in at my local LGS today and looked at the 1-4 illuminated PCL and the 3-12x bdc. I was hoping to also look at the 4.5-18 but they were sold out. The 1-4x PCL was equipped with an illuminated bdc type reticle in the first focal plane. It had a 30 mm main tube, and a quick throw lever for rapid power adjustments.
The 3-12x power scope is equipped with a "calibrated" 223/5.56 bdc reticle in the second focal plane. It has a side adjustable parallax as well.
Anyway, the specs can be easily looked up.
Both scopes are equipped with nice positive feeling turrets, and they appear to be of decent quality. The 1-4x was in mils and the 3-12 was in MOA.
What I was really impressed with was the clarity and sharpness of the glass. I didn't spend enough time with the 1-4x to see if it was a true 1 power or look for distortion. The eye relief on both scopes was fairly generous as well. I ended up purchasing the 3-12 after some contemplation. I'm sure I will be picking the 1-4x up as soon as the wife finds out and eventually let's me sleep upstairs again. Anyway,
I compared the 3-12 to the Leupold vx2 and Bushnell legend 4.5-14. The ar scopes were IMO, better quality in both glass, turrets and overall feel and I would say equal to the VX-2.
The only downside I can see with the 3-12x scope is, I would have preferred a mil-dot type reticle. And a minor thing is the power lever is a little stuff, but I thing it will likely loosen up a bit with use.
The 1-4x however is bang on IMO. I couldnt fault it at all. It's absolutely a deal! At approx $279 it's half the price of the Burris And Leupold AR scopes.
The 3-12 only set me back $192.
I realize these scopes aren't nightforce nxs' or Leupold mark 6's. They do however seem to offer decent feeling/looking quality at a budget price.
I will report back after I fire a couple thousand rounds of 5.56 with it to see if it actually holds up.
