My wife is going to Italy for two weeks, so I wanted to give her a simple GPS that could be used to find the hotel or tour bus. I have a couple of nice garmin units that I cannot easily figure out how to use.

The BackTrack is a small unit that will go in her purse or she can wear on a lanyard. It has two buttons. One marks the spot and the other cycles between a choice of 4 coded waypoints.

So easy my wife could do it.

This would be a handy device for huntng newbies who wnat to make sure they can get back to the camp or truck. One click and they have it. The round scale points in the direction and a digital read is distance. You can select miles/yards or kms./meters

$50 at laBarons.

As I drove home with it, I clicked the marker button on 3 icons, so i could demonstrate it to my wife. When she turned it on, it pointed to each of those icons, in turn, and gave the distance.

She then clciked the marker button while stnding on the front steps and then walked across the front lawn. It started to indicate how many meters she was from the front steps, and pointed an arrow at the steps.

It seems accurate and very easy to use. I don't know how long the two little AAA batteries last (booklet says 20 hours) and I do not know how it works with tree cover.

It does appear to remembr the various icons after it has been turned off. If you marked your truck for example, you coudl theturn it off and put it in your pack or pocket until it is time to head back to it. That would save a lot of battey time.

It is made in China. Quality might vary from unit to unit.
