I have a Bushnell 3-9 scope- got it about 10 years ago, from a friend who'd taken it off his Browning 22-220 bolt action.

What are people's opinion of this? Good scope? Boat anchor?

I'm thinking of putting it on my 185-series Mini-14. Will it take the recoil?

Thanks for comments or opinions!

Should handle the recoil just fine.

I ran one of my rifles with a banner 3-9 for a little while...it does the job. Didn't lose zero and no problems to note. Not great optics IMO, but suitable to use while you try to find a deal.

'kay, well, I've been told to expect MOBD (minute of barn door) accuracy with a Mini-14 anyway. so maybe it won't be an inappropriate scope.

Thanks to everyone for the comments- I'm keeping in mind that it's not a high precision rifle by any means!

Sort of right about the Mini-14. I had a 580 Mini that consistanly shot 4" groups at 100 yds. My new 581 with the thicker barrel shoots 2.5"-3.0" at 100 yds. I still like it for a bush beater. As for tack driving, I use a couple of bolt guns for range paper hunting. Even with the best equipment money can buy, I don't shoot better than 1 MOA. As for the Banner scope. I would not buy one but if I already had one, I would use it until it breaks. I have broken 2 of them with a 10/22. The retical glass will eventually wiggle loose. It's not a matter of "if", it's a matter of "when" it will break...and it will break.

My 3-9x40 sits on a Marlin 17HMR and manages well under 1 MOA at 50 metres. Optics are not great though and its harder to shoot at longer ranges. Havent tried it in low light but dont have high hopes...
