It's all about matching the optics to the application, as noted. The banner is a fine scope, but comes with some limitations. If those limitations don't bother you, or don't interfere with your application, then all is peachy
I had a Banner 3-9x40 on my Savage Muzzleloader this fall and it has 1 5x5 whitetail and 2 5x6 Mulie Bucks under its belt.
Not a bad scope considering it was only $95 and if it breaks I just go and buy another.
I dont glass hillsides with my scope all I do is get in range of the target and get the crosshairs on its vitals and it over from there.
If I were to go on a hunt to africa I think the old Banner would be replaced with a Leupold or Zeiss but for the hunts I do it worked well.
I have one on my setup and it's OK for the price, it's not so clear on overcast condition but i'm happy with it thus far but I'll probably buy better glass down the road.
I was just looking at one to match up with a 10/22, but was unsure of their reliability, in this case it only needs to be used up to 100 yrds at most, any suggestions?
Get something with an adjustable objective. Most rifle scopes without it are set to be parallax free at 100M or further. This is no good for a .22. That's why you need one with AO....for the money, I put a Tasco 2.5-10x42mm AO on my 10-22. Suited well for the rifle....
My bro's got one on his 270, never had any problems with fogging, and it is used in manitoba on some very cold days! I'm considering getting one for my 270 in 4-12x40
