In looking for a scope for my Ruger 10/22 for Gopher shooting, I came across a Bushnell Buckhorn 3x-9x. I've never heard of them before so I was wondering, does anyone have any info on them? What are they, about the same level as the Banner?

I've taken hundreds of earth pigs (groundhogs here in Bantario) from 25 steps (very fuzzy brown critter) to 300 steps away on 9X. For $ 100 about 15 years ago, it was a great value on my .223 dedicated hunter. Took it to Saskatchewan and hosed hundreds more gophers with this .223. But at 30 steps, the gophers were fuzzy (scope is parallax designed for 100 yard shots). :D

Hope this helps!

Thanks guys. This one is new in the box and I can pick it up for $50.oo. Did a quick visual check for parallex and it doesn't 'seem' to be too bad. Again, it'll go on a 10/22 and it's for gophers;). Thanks for your input. Much appreciated:).

The Buckhorn was the model previous to the Trophy. I had one on a .308 for many years with no glitches...

My Grandfather had a 4X on his .308 Norma Mag for 15 years or so...now it's on my Uncles .308 BLR.

Not sure on how clear it is..but hey for 50$ if you don't like it give it to a new shooter or someone who needs one.

IIRC, the Buckhorn 3-9 was about a $75 scope NIB back in the day. So, if it's still NIB or like new then $50 would be okay. Probably not a bad scope for a .22....

NAA.

I've had that scope on my 10/22 for over 10 years and it has been through a lot. Great scope, you won't be dissapointed

Ironically, I had a Buckhorn on my 10-22 about 16 years ago and during a day at the range the reticle spun itself sideways. A couple of hours ago i was at the range and saw the reticle in a friends Banner turn itself about 45 degrees to the right. The Banner was on a .223 Bushmaster. Personally, I wouldn't bother regardless of price.

I have an old Buckhorn purely for hunting thats been on a 30.06, 223 and now sits on a Marlin .17hmr
Not a bad scope, holds a decent point of impact and has taken rough handling with no problems.
