I've been looking for a better scope for my 12FVSS in .308 for a while now. It currently has a 3200 3-9x50 on it. Which is great for up to 200 yards. Anything past that it is ok. I'm looking for something to go out to 500+ yards. I'm looking for something with clear optics, under $500, fine reticle, and good warranty. Is there something better than the Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x40 1/4 MOA?

i am having the same dilemma,i have owned a 6-24 4200 in the past and had no issues with it.i replaced it with a sightron SIII 8-32 which is very nice. Now i am in the market for another scope in the 6-24 magnification range to install on a newly acquired rem 700P in .223. was thinking of the SII 6-24 as talked about in the above post or another 4200 or a vortex viper in 6.5-20 or even a nikon monarch decisions decisions!!! Kind gave a falcon 5.5-25 a thought but there quality is spotty if you do some research. Anyone offer some thoughts.it would be nice to get up to 32x for load work at the range, can't have to much magnification for range work

I have been a big fan of 4200 6-24's and have used several in competition rigs. Until the New gen sightrons, these were my go to scopes.

Unless you want used, the new 4200's will be over your budget.

Now that the Sightrons are out, I have switched. Great optics, tracking, more elevation/windage similar pricing.

The SII Big Sky is my go to 1" product line and the side focus models work really well. Rebate sale on now for a few more weeks.

If have a bit more in your budget, the SIII LR blows away anything in its price range and even products costing a couple of times more.

My fave is the SIII 6-24X50. Optics are superb as is tracking and focus.

These are certainly a step up vs your budget but you will likely not need to change scopes due to getting tired of the optics and tracking.

Ouch. They certainly are a step up in price. I can get a new Bushnell 4200 6-24 for less than $500. I know it's not cool setting a price on optics but I think $500 isn't exactly skimping. Considering I paid less for the rifle it's going on.

Scopes are like speakers, buy the best you can afford!

There is a guy in Vancouver selling two 4200 24x40 scopes in the EE right now. $450 shipped I believe, with mounts & rings.

Take a look at the Nikon's. The Buckmaster 6-18x40 SF is crystal clear throughout the magnification range and the side-focus is a great plus. They can be had for around $4-500. I've had mine mounted on a few of my guns, from a Sav 10FPLE in .223 to my custom Rem 700 in 300 WBY mag. All held zero and tracked true. The box test at 300 m was perfect.

Try a Nikon Monarch. I have a couple of Elites and feel that my new Monarch 4-16x is better.

I looked at Nikons a year ago and compared them to Bushnell 3200's. I liked the Nikon's better. But now when I compare the Nikons to the 4200's, the 4200's impress me more. At least for the high powers.

I have an older B+L 4000 6-24 with 1/8 adjustment and 1/8 dot recticle. It's on a Rem 700 22-250AI, I had it on a 308 CZ550 awhile back and it was a decent scope out to 500, I can't recall taking it further or if it had enough adjustment because the CZ had integral mounts(no tapered rails). Likely, it would have made 600, not 700.
