I have an Elite 4200 6x24 and got in a weird situation this weekend. I usually shoot 168gr with my Remmy 700 .308. For some reason Higginson was out of stock so i bought some 155 Amax since i wanted to try them out in my M305 anyway. When i tried them in my Remington i was hitting about 5 inches too high at 100yds. I tried to correct and go down on my scope but I ran out of clicks before i could come that low:confused::confused: When shooting my 168's i was somewhere like 20 clicks before bottoming out. Is that normal? Do i have to buy different mounts because i want to shoot 155's in both rifle? I'm going back to 168 anyway for the Rem but was wondering if a lighter bullet always causes those problems? Thanks
 
I have a 6.5x55 & used 130 Grainers.
I recently tried some 85 grainers & got the same results as you. I was really surprised at the difference in elevation.
 
Sounds like you need more than 20 clicks (4 inches) to make your particular gun/mounts/load work. My personal 6-24 4200 has 1/8 minute clicks....A scope with 1/8" clicks has half the adjustment of a 1/4" click scope (when the same turret style is used).

Some sort of scope mount adjustment or scope with more adjustment are the only things that will help. I have no idea as to how the 305 mounts work so perhaps one of the 305 guys will chime in.

Don't shoot the rifle with the turrets cranked all the way down as this can roach a scope.

different bullets, different poi. I continue to drive myself insane shooting different loads through my rifles. sometimes boredom is the way to go. In otherwords if a load has worked for you in the past, why change?
 
I have only owned one rifle and found one load that was close to the same POI.
My 7mm Rum will shoot 140 grain bullets the same as 160s, its supprizing concidering the different powder and bullet wieghts.
But yes its very normal.
