I have searched the board a little for similar threads, and I believe I am going to go with either the Bushnell Elite ARC 1500 or slightly more expensive Leica LRF 1200 (or if lucky the CRF).

I will be taking my rangefinder hunting amongst other things, and I like the sound of the compact Leica and it's superior optics, but is the Bushnell's angle compensation worthwhile? I really have no idea how this works and if it really is useful when adjusting for elevation on shots. Can you imput information on your bullet drop into the 1500 or something? What exactly does it tell you? Do any of you guys find this useful?

I guess I have seen some opinions on which is the better optic, and this is obvious that the Leica has better glass, but I am trying to decide if the Bushnell has a legitiment purpose in my hunt.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

The Elite has more features, including the angle measuring device, and it does work quite well.

It calculates several different "categories" of cartridges

However, the Leica is more compact and has better optics.

Depends on what you want the most. :)

arc or not

tryed both the elite 1500 and leica 1200. liked the bushnell best. the arc feature isn't necessary unless you are shooting alot in extreme mountains or have no expertise at long range judgement.

I owned a Leica 800 and now have an ARC elite 1500. Unless you plan on hunting beyond 500yds or hunting in very hilly terrain, the ARC function will do little for you. Both work very well out to 900yds. The Leica is a bit faster and easier to get a reading on trees/grassy hillsides but both are more then adequate for hunting.

Neither will read in very bright sunshine beyond 600+yds.

Both work very well for the average hunting distances.

How many hunters, not trained snipers can make a one shot fatal shot on deer using a modern magnum 7mm to 340 and high x scopes at extended ranges of 5-600yrds.

From your articles I can tell that you know.

My experience over 55 years of hunting in Canada from coast to coast Africa and Alaska bagging most Canadian game tells me that only 2% can do it. I did most my hunting with a 300Wby 340 Wby 7x61 and 257Wby. This for 25 years until I had a shoulder injury.
With these rifles I made a fair share of long shots, on moose, bears, deer, elk, antelope caribou and know well what it takes to make one shot kills at long range.

I now for the rest of my hunting years I use light calibers like 257R, 25-06, 7x57and a darling 25 Hunter made by Bill Leeper most all are precise single shot rifles.

What does this have to do with the topic at hand.

Sorry for getting sidetracked. I had a Bushnell rangefinder that was okay but not spectacular by any means. When issued a Leica for work there was no comparison with regards to range, speed in acquiring targets etc. I took my Bushnell to the range and used it to confirm my CCB. It now sits in my basement with a nice 308 caliber hole in the center of it. Hopefully I answered your question.

Ive owned both, and they are both great units. THe 1200 CRF is more compact which is good for hunting, but the 1500 elite has the ARC feature which is pretty cool. Pricewise the Bushnell is cheaper, but the Leica isnt too much more
