so looking for opinion on the bushnells elite 3200, 3x9x40 DOA scope. buying my first scope. i notice this one is discontinued...should that matter?

The Elite line is / was a very good scope ..no problem with being discontinued IMHO.. the scope manufacturers regularly update / rename their product lines.

thx, yes they did rename it with a stoopid tv name....bone collector i believe now. as they have been doing with their bino. and the new ones are waaaay less money to.

yes it is popular. i have it put away at a shop for me and when i got home and did some reading is when i saw the discontinued item and the name change to the gimiky name now and big price drop. thought it was over priced but its cause the new version is less now...and im sure its not just price is less now...lol

now to decide if its the cheeper ruger american i want to put it on till i can get my hands on a proper left hand rifle

The name only changed to Elite, no 3200 anymore. These are great scopes. Especially for the price. I have heard that the new elites are what used to be 4200 series. My eye says that the elite glass is better than the 3200 but not much. Nikon prostaff glass is good but will not hold recoil the same as the elites. My shotgun with slugs says so. Patterns double with the same slugs, on same gun. Lighter recoil both are fine. For the same money I know what id choose

Bushnell dropped the 3200 and 4200 a couple years ago. They replaced it with a single line, the Elite. I'd say it's on par with the old 4200.

I have/had both the 3x9-40 in both the Elite 3200 and in the straight Elite series and the new Elite's are noticeably brighter and clearer. That's not to say I didn't like the 3200, I did. Positively great scope but I broke it and Bushnell replaced it with the upgraded Elite series.

As far as the numbers game goes about a year or two ago Bushnell upgraded all of the 3200 Elite line to the 4200 standard and than dropped the numbers so now its just Elite. If the Elite 3200 you are looking at is anything above 230 I'd pass because the new Elite line hovers around 270.

not sure what nikkons i just checked out but way more money and wasnt better in my view for what they said was the comparable with other brands. also compared to the leupold vx-1 and i wouldnt put a scope on a shot gun myself
hard to believe the new ones are the 4200 since they were even more than a 3200 and now the new ones are quite a bit less than the 3200.

i think retail on the 3200 for me was about 329., and i work in a shop so i get a deal.

I have never seen a Bushnell Elite 3200 3x9x40 go for more than $250. If it did, you were ripped off. I have three of them, all bought in the day under $250(bought from Wanstalls and Reliable). The new Elite line is like said on par with the old 4200. Now argon purged instead of nitrogen purged. Elite & old Elite 4200 are night and day compared to the Elite 3200. That being said, I have never had issues with the 3200. I have two Elites and still a Elite 4200 2.5x10x40 (these can still be had for under $400 and probably the best bang for the buck) as well.

i havent seen any that cheep and there is a few diff versions that were cheeper ones. anjd if online its usualy always cheeper, then we forget the shipping and border stuff if from usa
bushnells web site even shows them at over 500 for this model, hrard time seeing stores sell for less than half recomended retail.

The prices found on their website are way out to lunch. No retail store that I've seen sells them for close to that price.
