Hey guys,

I am looking to put a holosight on my new AR. I know the bushnell holosight is made by Eotech and is substantially less than an eotech sight. What is the major difference between the two though? Would the Bushnell be a decent starting point for plinking out to about 100m?

Thanks,

Vengeance

I have both. Mainly the eotech is built milspec a LOT stronger than the holosight. other than that, they are identical in terms of what you see and how they operate (night vision aside). So for target work where the consequences if it fails are no big deal, there's nothing wrong with the Eotech. For virtually worry free operation like on an expensive hunt in inclement weather, or in combat operations, the peace of mind you get by spending the extra $$ would be worth it to me. your mileage may vary. My .02s worth

I've used my HOLOsight on my PE-90 with very good results. Hunted it, too (coyotes) - it's a very fast sight for acquiring your target.

While the Eotech is probably tougher, the HOLOsight should be plenty for a sporting-use .223 (I'd put the $$$ difference into ammo;) )

Is anyone aware of any problems with co-witnessing with the Bushnell? I will be using an ARMS 40 backup site. The holosight looks like it sits high...hence the co-witnessing question. Thanks.

I think it depends on the height of your rail. On the PE-90, the height of the scope rail places the optical sight (scope or holosight) above the line of sight of your iron sights (so I had to use the accessory cheek rest).

Here's a picture of an Eotech which looks pretty close (I'd say identical) to what the Holosight looks like, in terms of height above the axis of the bore:

Vengeance- I have an Eotech 552 with the back-up Arms flip sight. Co-witnesses perfectly. They are on my AR (Armalite M15A4 16" HBAR). I love the setup

They are just mounted directly onto my flat top. it's the ARMS #40 Flip up rear sight. I will try to dig up a pic

OK I got the holosite (Thanks Gunnar) and it looks sweet. co-witnesses nicely. The only question I have is that it only has a "dot" and not a reticle with crosshairs as others have had. I have not been able to determine in my research online if this is due to it being an older model. any thoughts?

I think it will take some getting used to. Depending on how I position my cheek the dot moves on me...sometimes it is right on the front sight post and other times below it. I guess I have to be more consistent. I am interested in trying it out at the range.

The Bushnell Holosight/EOTech have zero parallax...IOW, it doesn't matter where the dot is positioned on the lens it will be on target. That takes a bit of getting used to.

Also remember to shoot with both eyes open, which can also take a bit of getting used to if that isn't your normal habit. This is one of the big advantages with it for fast target aquisition, as well as being more aware of what is in the area around your target than you would be with a standard scope. You just look at the target and almost without thinking you've got the red dot aligned by the time you decide to shoot.
