Are they any good? How do they compare with other "red dot" sights. Pro's/Con's

They are not combat proof but certainly suitable for hunting and target shooting. I have two and have no complaints. I also have two Eotechs for serious work.

Better than 'red dot' sights - the circle/dot combo is much faster for acquisition, and the optics are almost perfectly free of distortion.

One key advantage of the holosight is the size of the dot. For example, the Bushnell Holosight has a 1 MOA rating comparing to the average red dot 4-6 MOA ratings. The holosights allow a more accurate and longer distance shooting. The price is 2-3X and up, however.

depends on what you use it for, I have a Bushnell, and I find the ring around the dot may help if you lose the dot, gives you a reference for picking up targets. The Eotech is more expensive, and it has protective material around it, hence it can take more abuse. Like quigley said, if you can afford it, spend the extra for an Eotech.
