Does anyone have any expierience with the Bushnell Scopechief line? I believe they were the top of the line Bushnells at one time. Where would you rank them compared to Redfields, Weavers, Burris ...

They're very good...at least the ones I have or have had are. Currently have a 1.5-4.5 and a 2.5-8. These have both been on so many rifles for so many years I've lost track. Both have the magnetic command post, both are as good as new functionally. I think I bought the little one in 1972, and it's currently on a 45-70 single shot. My eyes aren't as good as they used to be, but both of these and others I've owned were excellent imho.
I had a problem with one only. I bought it from a guy on this board described as "a small dent on tube, does not affect function." Turned out the vertical crosshair was broken and Bushnell said it looked like it had been smacked with a hammer. Therefore they charged me about $70.00 to rebuild it, and it's still going strong on a buddy's 30-06.

I had one that went sour. The point of impact shifted as you changed powers. They fixed it at their warranty depot and we'll see as I have not mounted it yet. By the way this was my fourth bushnell to break down.

From my experiences, the ones that are marked Bausch and Lomb Japan are outstanding. As a matter of fact I have a 3-9X40 that came off a rifle I just sold in my hand right now that I would not hesitate to put head to head with my VX III's...seriously. If it was a lower magnification I would keep it and put it on one of my carbines for sure...and ALL my guns wear VX III's...it's that nice to look through.

I've got one that bought the farm to... the reticle no longer seems to be attached to the adjustment knobs.
My friend sent his back to Bushnell N/C sent him a new scope

I like the Scopechief VI 4 power. Good glass and very durable. Cheap, too! (Like me.) One time at a gun show I compared one side by side with a new Weaver Classic 4 power. The Scopechief was way sharper and brighter.

Agreed. I haven't tried any bushnell-branded ScopeChiefs though, but the old Bausch and Lomb stuff is first rate. Easily VX-III quality

I have an old (made in Japan) ScopeChief 4 1.5-4.5 . I got it as part of package years ago... was skeptical at first (didn't think it was up to other scopes I have and use Zeiss, Swarovski .. yadayada..)
I mounted it on a 35 Whelen pump "just to see" ... its still there and is a wonderful scope...better image than the first generation Leupold Vari X III 1.5-5 which had lots of flare I got rid of around the same time

Scope Chief

I was wondering about the quality of the Scope Chief VI. I have one on my Brno 21H and I have no complaints. I have learned quite a bit from you gentlemen about the Bushnell line of scopes.
I have mostly elite 3000's, and 3200's on my guns.

I have packed up my Tasco's and am going to sell them because I have been using Bushnells for the past 10 years.
The best scope I ever had was a Kahles 6 power on my first SSG 69 and I haven't come across another scope as clear as that. I think the tube was bigger than 1" and smaller than 30mm does that sound correct?

Anyone know anything about Simmons 44Mag rifle scopes I have a new 6.5 - 20 X 44 scope and I was thinking of mounting it on my Steyr SSG 69 PII
Do you think it is over kill? Or should I mount it on a 223 target Sportco?

I have a couple of Nikko Sterling scopes, one is a Gold and the other is a Platinum. I have the Platinum in the box and it’s a 4 – 12 X 50 and the Gold is a 3 - 9 X 42. I know they don’t come close to the high-end scopes. Got them on trades and don’t have a heck of a lot of money in them. Just need an opinion from experienced scope users.

i'm a bushy user from way back- my first was those really funny 22 with the propietory clamp mount- the one that took the oddball hex key that everyone lost and rimmed out when you tried to go too tight- my next was a banner 4x12x40 with the adjustable parallax and bdc, then i got a scopecheif 4x12x40 with adj parallax, bdc, and the rangefinder ( it was the 2 stadia wires affair where you adjust the power up or down to fit the target in between the wires) and they've all been good to me- i've got about 15 rifles, most of them wear bushnells, and the 2 bum ones i've had ( 1 sportview - didn't change powers right out of the box, the other was a cheap 2.5 banner that grouped like ashotgun) they replaced for their "inspection" fee- 10 bucks- in the case of the 2.5, it was a compact which was no longer made, so they replaced it with 1.5x4.5x32 banner dusk and dawn- roughy a 30 buck scope (retail) with an 89.95 retail- they're all right in my books

... likely it was 26MM vs the 25.4 mm that is 1" (26mm is pretty common for European scopes fwiw) .. Kahles are a subsidiary of Swarovksi as most know...but I am not sure how long that has been the case. Very nice scopes of course.

On the military firearms it is more common to see Hensoldt (a subsidiary of Zeiss) and Kahles (a subsidiary of Swarovski) than the equivalent scopes from the parent company... not sure why though...

X2 Ive had some Old Bausch scopes in the past and they were just as good as the Zeiss Conquest I owned, never owned a VX III so I can't comment there.
