Santa left an older model Scopechief VI 4x12x40 in my stocking for Christmas but he did not leave the instruction manual. This model has the AO and a ranging system which I think was called Bullet Drop Compensator (BDC). The top (elevation) adjuster has a small window with graduations from 100 to 500 yards. I seem to remember that the system had different cams or dials for calibres of differing velocities but I only have the one in the scope. The top of the elevation cap has a large coin sized slot which moves the 100-500 yard indicator and nothing else. My question is how do I sight in the elevation at the range. From a detailed inspection it looks like the BDC system might unscrew our leaving a normal elevation adjuster underneath but everything seems pretty tight and I do not want to scratch the finish on the BDC cap if I am wrong in my speculation. Can anyone help with knowledgeable advice? Sorry I can't post pictures. Thanks.
