So I sighted my rifle today with my Bushnell TRS-25, but I forgot the key to remove the Bushnell so that I could adjust my iron sights too.

So when I got home I decided to do a makeshift sight adjustment, by lining up the red dot with the edge of the door, and then removing it and seeing if my iron sights lined up with the edge of the door too.

However, what I found was if I moved my head so that the red dot is near the far right or left of the edge of the scope, the red dot would move to the right/left respectively OFF the target!

I thought the red dot is supposed to target at the same spot regardless of where I move my head??

Try using a 'target' further away. IIRC, those sights are parallax free after 50 yards, meaning if you sight at an object 50+ yards away the dot shouldn't move.

Using something closer results in the dot shifting.

This is how reddots are designed to function. They compensate for your poor sight alignment/sight picture. That perceived movement is supposed to happen.

Thanks, but I don't understand what you mean. Are you saying that the red dot wasn't pointing where I thought it was pointing?

Awesome thanks! Do you think I can rely on my "makeshift sighting method" as semi-reliable? Just make sure the red dot is in the middle of the scope to determine where it's aiming i suppose?
