Any opinions between an elite 3200 and a leupold vx2? both 3-9x40, recently I have mounted a vx-1 3-9x40 on a backup rifle and a vx-2 1-4x20 on another, liking the Leupolds now and I am wondering if the vx2 would be an upgrade over the elite? Lots of opinions elsewhere welcome the opinions on here.

Thanks,

Well - They both have their features. I would say the VX2 if slightly better optically and mechanically. However, the Rainguard feature on the 3200's is nice if you hunt in bad weather. In addition, the 3200's are no longer in production, so if you're buying on the used market, that scope may be 25 years old - as a minimum, the nitrogen purge may be gone.

It's currently on my rifle, just wondering if the vx-2 would be better, occasionally I am in a rain/snow/fog hunt so the rainguard is welcomed, the vx-2 doesn't have any sort of rainguard coating?

I don't see much difference in the glass BUT the leupold throws up nicer ( more forgiving eye box or better eye relief ? )

Some guns and mount s work out so I don't see any difference
So if possible try your scope choice on the gun , the way it fits or lines up may be the diff

And that Leupold lookys waaaaaaaaaaaay nicer too.
Now, iff'in yew stumpled ahpawn a 4200 fur a song, grab it.
These are increddiblee clear glassed scopes.

Glass wise to me both were less than a ziess conquest but it wouldnt fit my rifle. After mounting both the vx2 and elite on my rifle i chose the elite and im happy. The rain gaurd is a nice feature

I’ve had two new leupold vx3 scopes and my elite 4200 out did them both in clarity. Easily! Now I only have vx2’s jus for my rimfire rifles. The elite 4200’s are a steal when you buy them used. Zeiss conquest or a 4200 would be my choice if you can’t afford the more expensive options out there
