I have one its alright , but I would not buy anothing one . But the Bushnell Dawn to Dusk is by far one of the best scopes I have ever used for the money , I have put it through lots of abuse and never once failed/fogged on me , I would look into the dawn to dusk im sure you will see the difference.
Just received one, a 5-15x40mmAO mil-dot. NIB from Wholesale Sports for $220. Haven't been able to give it a 'test-drive' yet. It's going on a BBR 7mm-08 with a medium heavy 24" barrel. Haven't got beyond unpacking it and giving it the cursory going-over. Impressed so far, though. I think a 2-7 would be a good choice for a Win '88. I had an '88 in .308 before with an old 'all steel'K-4 Weaver in tip-offs. Have you considered a Leupold VX-1 or Rifleman in 2-7?
I liked the look of the $150.00 price tag, if I really need a better scope I will make the move ot a 3200($230.00), but if the Rainguard is the only notable difference I will go with the Legend. Just trying to save a few bucks if the feedback is good.
I have one 5-15x40 I like it alot. I have used it out to 600 yards at the range on a 6.5x55. It is now mounted on my 17HMR and used for hunting ground hogs and crows. I would have kept it on the target rifle but it does not have semi target turrets(pita for adjusting between 300-600 yards).
Repeats settings, holds zero, and very clear, even at dusk nice scope for $220.00!
Legend is just one step below the 3200...but it looks better to my eyes. I have one (5-15x40AO) on my .223. I would personally try to find a used Leupold for a .308, but I'd not hesitate to recommend the Legend.
One thing I will mention is try to look through a few differnt scopes of the same model to compare.Recently a friend bought a new cheaper scope and I looked through about 10 before I found one that didnt have a slight haze around the very outside or just was not sharp. One thing I havent found with the leupolds, every one I look through is darn nice.I also have an old bushnell trophy that is bright and clear, but many of the new ones made in korea or the phillipines seem to be hit or miss.Cannot say about the legends as I have not looked through their scopes but I have 8 X 42 Legend binoculars that are absolutely awesome!!
I have two of the exact scope you are thinking about. One of them sits on my Browning BLR 358 winchester and the other sits on my Remington 870 slug gun. I don't think you will be dissappointed with this scope. I find that they will hold there zero through the heavy recoil of the 3 inch slugs, are bright and clear, and have repeatable adjustments.
Buy it. It is a great scope for the money. I will be buying the 5-15X40 soon.
I have one on my 338 mag. works ok but I find my 3200 to be clearer. For the price differance I would go with the 3200-works great in the rain/damp weather.
I have a 2-7x Legend on a 99 Savage in .308. It's a nice size for a compact lever rifle, and I find it very clear and bright...would definitely consider purchasing another.
