Hey all,

I recently got a USGI fiberglass stock for my M14s, and finally have the time to switch it over. As I sit here now looking at the fiberglass stock butt, I am not too sure it will be a simple "screw out, screw in operation".

I recall a post talking about this matter, however I am unable to locate it. Anyone able to give me a hand with a quick heads up on the procedure?

Thank you.

You switching from wood to fiberglass? If so; the top wood screw won't work. The bottom is a direct switch as it's a machine screw that threads into the rear sling swivel. I'll try to locate a description of what 45ACP installed on my USGI fiberglass stock. I think Hungry has posted the answer to this one a number of times as well.

From 45ACP "i can install standard machine screws with nuts epoxy bedded into the stock for the buttplate". He describes the process in a post on this form. I'm still looking for it.

Here it is, I searched this form for "screw":

"it's real simple folks.....

get a 3/16 x 2" inch long taper head stove bolt and nut, canadian tire, 50 of em cost 6 bucks. Get a tube of jb weld and a bit of grease/vaseline and some tinfoil, 1"x1" square. lightly coat the bolt and wipe away excess grease. keep grease away from the nut.

apply a fingernail size dollop of mixed jb weld into the little slot the original nut is supposed to go in. now, insert your stove bolt nut into the jb weld filled pocket and apply another fingernail sized dollop of JB weld burying the nut. Place 1"x1" piece of tinfoil on top of the nut area, covering the jb weld and forcing it to stay in the pocket. Slip a 1.4 inch washer over the stove bolt and insert it into the jb weld filled nut, tighten untill the washer comes flush and tight to the stock and is straight with the hole and pocket. Let cure like this and once fully cured, remove the screw and you now have a permanent fix. the washer can be discarded

*** for those wanting to install a norc buttplate to a usgi fiberglass stock..... one modification that MUST also be done has not been mentioned so far.
The area where the trap door latch sits against the buttstock must be milled out a minimum of 1/8" to allow for proper fit and function. It's a bit hard to explain... I'll post pics maybe later.

if we could make a new usgi stock modification thread as a sticky..... I am willing to do a start to finish with descriptions and photos, how to mod your g.i. fiberglass stock for full norc compatability. Paint job included

Contact the M14 Doctor (aka 45ACP). He can install your butt plate screws, fill that pesky auto selector cutout, and transform your stock into a work of art. All for a very reasonable price.

BTB, I hate this picture. What looks like white or grey is actually tan. It's a truely awsome central Alberta fall paint job.

I was there when he just finished that baby!
You must love that job he did. If you ever take that on a fall hunt they will never see you coming!

Hey there gnmontey,

that's the stock I have been looking for, since... forever!

Thanks in advance for the enlightenment!
