My father in law has an old 12 gauge Model 50 with the buttplate missing sitting under his bed. We're trying to get it cleaned up and put in working order before Christmas. Can anyone recommend a buttpad/plate that will work for this shotgun? I googled, but couldn't turn up much. Seems like an older gun for which parts aren't all that common (at least on the internet).

Thanks!

The problem is you could have 20 model 50 butt stocks and take the butt plates off and they will not fit exactly best hope is to have a 1/2'' recoil pad fitted to the gun.

The butt stock on the model 50 has a role to play in the functioning of the action. There is a big coil spring inside the butt. Shortening the butt to add a recoil pad would probably require shortening the spring to get the action to function properly.

Actually you are wrong....there is a spring retainer that screws into a hollow shaft in the stock and the butt pad has nothing to do with holding the spring. I have 7 model fifties and all of the original shop manuals to go with them plus the original adds printed in the 1950's. I also have a spare butt stock which may have the original butt pad on it, although I will have to check to be certain. pm sent to the op.
