Buy then build AR

Depends what you want.

I got a 5.56 NATO ar-15,then ended up like cqb (below 50 yards) type shooting. I switched to. 22lr so I hit steel up close and bow 9mm ar-15 to, which is great to 50 and good to 100.

I think a 9mm ar is better to start because it's cheaper, still has some kick and is good to shot out to 100 yards. Now if you want it for 3 gun or +100 you may find a 5.56 ar is best.

Two best pieces of advice:
-ammo will always cost more than a firearm.
-if you don't know why something is better and there is a cheaper option, save the money for ammo and go cheaper. Once you know why to upgrade, then do so, otherwise it's a waste.

My fave 22lr ar is SW MP15-22
Best 9mm Ar use Glock/Colt mags (can get 10 round pistol mags), others are 5.
Get a used AR if in 5.56, you'll save some good cash.
