If one purchases a complete 16" AR, then purchases a complete CQB upper afterwards, can you just swap the 2 uppers and go shooting... or do you have to inform the CFC? If you have to contact the CFC, what needs to be done/said? Is it something ignorant as re-registering? Thx.

This can be a problem if by swapping uppers you are going from an unrestricted rifle to a restricted one, which is a potential with the M96. With an AR you are already restricted, so swapping the upper doesn't change the status of the gun.

You're supposed to call the CFC and notify them of any change in barrel length within 30 days of the change, but just be sure to switch back to the 16" every now and then, and you've got 'er beat.

Does anyone know what 11.5" is in centimeters?:eek:

In case you weren't joking: 11.5" x 2.5 = 28.75cm

Regards,

I think it's 2.54 which would be 29.21cm. I work in both metric and imperial.

1" = 25.4001mm
1mm = .3937"

I'm probably a little off but that is splitting hairs. I hope you don't think I'm getting down on you Boomer686 but that is a difference of almost 1/4".

they wont even bother with this request. since it is a restricted, and it'll stay restricted, they just dont care about changing the regi.

my AR has been a 'reciever only' for 3 years now. tried twice to change it, all i got was the request is in processing.

Same here.Sent in the paperwork to the CFC as directed, and nada.Not a word.

Only been 4 years for me.:rolleyes:

SKBY.

So the reg cert says 'receiver only' along with the S/N as well? No potential problems going to the range?

So, that would be a 'No' then, in not as many words.... :D

I know that you have to notify the CFC if you modify your firearm in such a way that it changes class...so under that interpretation, you shouldn't have to notify them at all...but then again, they seem to like jerkin us around whenever possible so who knows :confused:

no much of a problem. the rifle gets taken and you go to the crowbar hotel. it is ILLEGAL to modify a non-restricted firearm to restricted, IE shorter barrel. you can make a restricted a non-restricted but once a nonrestricted you can only make it an illegal prohib. can't cross the line and go back.

so yes, buy a M96 in short barrel form. you can swap on the longer barrel but it is still only a range toy. buy a long barrel and swap on the shorter one and it is illegal.

I went from a 16" to 11.5". I sent the registry a letter explaining the change. My cert card has the old barrel length on it and I can see the OPP hauling me off to jail for the discrepancy given the order of harrassment sent out recently.
Ah, Ontario. How did you go so WRONG?

you're not holding your breath for a response, are you?

Hey I did my duty. I sent it registered mail and if I don't get a new card I will go ahead and enjoy shooting it.
No one can say I didn't try!
As I said I'm more worried about the OPP's new hostile attitude against LEGAL gun owners.
