buying a double rifle in Canada

The 500 should do the trick on a whitetail.

I have read quite a bit on the 9.3x74 , that sounds like such a sweet cartridge.

I took a nice little buck with my 458 Lott this past fall. The 500 grain A frame worked ok.

I just love the sound when cartridges are dropped into a double, that is just the sound of pure happiness.

For what it's worth, in addition to the used guns on his site Ralph Martini also speaks German and deals with Heym and Merkel

yes 458 lott is a little limited on whitetail with the 500 grains a frame ... there is nothing better to use what we love.

i enjoyed barbequed boars with a 460 wea while in france ...

Try finding one thats actually regulated. Having 2 rear sights isnt for everyone. Well finished guns but the half dozen ive shot were no where near regulated

That's where careful reloading for each barrel comes into play, as well as a wee bit of sight tinkerin' to get the buggers dialed in decent at 50 yds. Pedersoli .45-70 barrels are best using hardcast boolits at moderate pressures & velocities, seein' as how the Mark IV be based on the uber rare 1878 Colt double rifle which be a blackpowder burner.

They are sweet when tweeked a tad.

If I didn’t find my .450no2 I would of bought one off Ralf Martini, or had Clay at Prophet River get me one.

Good luck and have fun with the search. Not overly a ton of them up here north of the border. But a few, I spent many years looking for the right one.

Hope to bring it back to Africa.

Well I bought the Merkel 140 AE chambered in .500 Nitro Express today. It came with Hornady dies, Norma brass and Woodleigh Weldcore bullets. I need to pick up a shell holder before I can put together some reloads. I can't wait for my first range session.
