I am currently thinking of buying a Mosin-Nagant M44 for my milsurp collection. Trade Ex Canada ad a laminated stock one for 159$, is this price OK? Is this gun's any good?

Hey Mat, I did buy a 91/30 from them a few months back, and for that price it's hard to go wrong, you'll have to admit... You may be able to find a cheaper one sooner or later in the EE section, but probably not a lot cheaper.

With Tradeex shipping fees, you'll likely end up spending some $200. You probably would not recup all that amount if you sold the rifle anytime soon; but if you intend on keeping it for a while, then you'll have enough fun with it to justify spending a couple of hundreds on it.

That, of course, being my humble opinion!

I've done business with TradEx; Really good people to deal with, guns are as described, & very prompt service. You'll like dealing with them.

My $169 M38 from Tradeex came out to just a tad over $200 with shipping and taxes to Toronto. Perhaps shipping is a bit cheaper to QC, though you'd probably have to pay provincial sales tax. While SIR may have had the M44 and 91/30 for about ten to thirty dollars cheaper than Tradeex when they've been in stock, my 91/30 from SIR had importers markings on the reciever that would greatly detract from its collector's value. My M38 had none.

I spoke to Anthony at Tradeex about the condition of the M44s he's got in stock and IIRC, none of them are counterbored like the M38s and they tend to have very good bores. I for one think that the laminating looks nice and look forward to getting one in the next few months, probably after I've recovered from purchasing an SVT 40 beforehand.

Often you'll read about all of the stores in the US where Mosins regularly sell for under $100. You have to remember however that they have a far larger market with larger importing companies that are able to purchase rifles in far greater quantities. Judging from what's happened to the prices on other milsurps there as they've become less readily available, I could easily see their prices on Mosins climb to Canadian levels and continue to sell should the supply line be cut short by new import/export rules and other considerations. In short, you'd still be getting alot of gun for the price that they are currently selling for and would probably have trouble finding them for any less even if you shopped around extensively.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

I have nothing but good things to say about TradeEx. I bought an M44 and a 91/30 from him last month and I'm very happy with both.

I also had outstanding telephone service, and PROMPT shipping on some bayonets a couple of months ago.

Anybody know if 7.62x54R is available anywhere yet? I would love an M44 fireball launcher, if I knew I could feed it!
