Hey guys, new here and a new PAL owner. It's been a while since I've done my license so hazy on the details of ownership exchange when buying from a private party.

Can someone walk me through the process so I don't piss off the sellers! I remember we need to call someone to verify our licenses and the transfer?

Thank you!

The seller verifies the buyer's license through the online portal. That's it. Send money, receive gun, as long as the seller is on the up and up.
Thank you!

As someone who has limited knowledge of firearms. What is something I should check a used rifle for?

The rifle I want is relatively new so that's good I'm assuming.

Check the fit, finish, etc. Look for garred or bunged up screws or bolts. Check for rust. Check the action and if it moves smoothly. Examine the barrel to ensure there's nothing horrible inside (either messed up rifling, or a clutch of spider eggs). Check the stock for cracks or chips. Basically give it all a good look over, and if you're satisfied then you're good. If you REALLY want to have an experts opinion, have the local gunsmith look it over.

Unlike people, he age of a firearm is no guarunte on its working condition.

As buyer or seller I exchange pal number, my date of birth, full name, email address, shipping address and request the same info. As the seller I call in and verify the transaction.

rifles are funny in that they don't really wear out or create problems. If it functions, it can be 100 or 1 year old and work just as well as the day it left the factory. Rust and stock chips are the only thing to really worry about.
