buying a scope in the USA ??

4scopes.com is one website in the states that can actually ship a fair amount of stuff to us here. You pay a fair premium but most of the scopes are cheap enough that it pays off.... just have to do a lot of waiting I would guess.

4Scopes is great if the exchange rate is on par with the Canadian $

I've dealt with 4Scopes and shipping is about 2 business days once your order is approved. That was when the Canadian $ was on par with the US $ . But right now with the crappy exchange rate, I'll buy from a Canadian Dealer.

If you're planning to drive down Stateside and buy your scope down there and drive it across the border, your real problem would be if you get caught by Homeland Security. The Canadian Border guys is the least of your problem.

I would suggest to NOT do it unless you want to get more than a rubber glove treatment from the US folks.

Yes and no. Some scopes are not allowed to be exported at all. Some can be exported if you get the export permits, and some U.S. retailers don't know, some don't care, some won't bother to find out and just refuse to sell/ship any to foreign buyers. If you go there to buy it and bring it back yourself you risk much trouble if you are caught. If you manage to persuade a U.S. seller to send you something forbidden or something without the necessary permits you risk losing the goods and your money.

So, decide which scope you want and do the research.

There's a sticky with some details about it in the Optics forum on this site.

How many times do these stupid threads come up. This gets asked on a regular basis about buying stuff in the states. Read the stickies or do a search.
