Has anyone done this? I will be in Helsinki this summer and wondered if it is possible (legal) to buy something nice like Lapua .338 or .50 and bring it home with me. I think Lapua is on "The Approved List" and I would stay under the 5000 round limit. Do I have to do that Import/Export thing like from the US. What do you guys think?

You would need to check with the Finns WRT export of ammo. Customs will allow you to import more ammo than the airlines will allow you to carry.

If you are coming in on a Finnish airline, the ammo limits might be pretty high, they are a pretty civilized country.
While you are wandering around the gunstores, remeber to send some gifts to your friends.

Yep, you'd have to find out if it's legal to buy and export from Finland as a tourist. U.S. laws don't apply there either.

Ammo limits on airlines are set by international agreement. They are the same everywhere.

If you ever come across some Valmet magazines in 308... grab a few!

As far as ammunition is concern, I was over there a few years ago... and I thought that it was pretty expensive!

If you are walking aimlessly around town, bring a map and DO NOT use the electricity plant as a reference. There are more then one!

Mike.

Ace did you end up getting anything from Finland?

Hi Ace, I am considering importing a Glock 19 Pro from Finland and I was wondering if you made any headway with your research on their import laws?

No joy. The cruise line I will be travelling on flatly refused to carry any "dangerous explosives." They scan every piece of luggage (like at the airport). You can supposidly ask a customs agent questions about what you want to do using this site :
http://www.tulli.fi/en/Yleiset/Customs_information.jsp

just emphasize that you want to EXPORT the gun and not use it in Finland

I searched on "Exporting Handgun" and got this http://www.tulli.fi/resources/searc...andgun+)&qtitle=exporting+handgun&langCode=en

Maybe you can wade though this to find the info you want.
