Decided after this pay cheque to order an .223 XCR-l Keymod. Need some help deciding on what to put on it.

Was looking at Eotech for an optic. Kinda stuck between the 512 model and the XPS-2, any thoughts on the matter? have only ever used the 512 and then only briefly.
For a front grip, looks like I will have to buy a keymod rail section right? or are there ones designed specifically for the keymod system. And part two of this question, which grip should I choose, there seems like endless variations. I like the look of straight grips over angled, but thats about as much as I can narrow it down.
Next I need a sling, was looking a maybe one that can convert between single point and 2 point. (Magpul MS3 perhaps?) And what will I need to make sure it can connect it on correct.
Finally, I want to put a bipod on it at some point. Do I need a rail section and then a harris style bipod adapter? (Maybe I should get a rail section long enough for both bipod and grip if they exist?)

This is my first foray into the world of semi's. Spent the better part of year saving up and looking at/handling different guns to get to this point. Any help you more experienced "nutz" can throw me would be incredibly useful. I'm liable to have forgotten something critical to this purchase. Totally open to any suggestions at all (rather set on the choice of gun though, lol).

hello, I've also just ordered a XCR -L, you can get a sling attachment to mount on the side of the key mod, I have a ms3 and it's a very good sling. I also have a grip/ bipod. Push a button and a bipod pops out, cost me $30,( shoulda got a better one though). Im adding a magpul CRT stock , it comes with a sling plate. I'm not sure if the OEM stock has a sling plate. I think I'm going with the sightron111 1x7 scope , because some magnification is good for those 100 yrd + shots:). And I ordered 1in 8 twist, because I was told it's the best. Hope that helps a bit. Brian... I'm Fairly , new at it too, just picking up bits and pieces as I go. Lots of good info on here, I'm sure you'll get some ideas soon!

Hi Calvin, welcome to GunNutz.

I've never mounted a bipod on my XCR, I prefer action shooting, on the move. When I do play on paper, I just use a sand bag. The rifle is muzzle heavy as is, and I'm a minimalist. For me, less is more.
My preference on optics is 1-4x, best of all worlds for my shooting. Works good out to 600, works great up close. I prefer scopes to sights.
I have a 2 point sling on mine, tried single but didn't work out for me. I found the single, awkward. Personal preference.

I'm new to black rifles too so I'll keep the BS to a minimum. My suggestion is buy the rifle, an optic, lots of mags and tons of ammo. Wait on the other accessories until you've fired some rounds and know the style of shooting you like.

You'll be ahead of the game if you can borrow glass from another rifle, until you know exactly what you want.

Wolverine can help with any and all accessories, they're good at what they do.

Good luck and enjoy. We'll be needing pics when you're set-up. That's not negotiable.
:)

The MS3 is a 2 point sling that converts to a single point sling, I never use it as a single point. Also + 1 on the sandbags, I only take the bipod in the bush with me now.

Get a couple buffers. It is not uncommon to chew one up during the break in period and they are only a couple bucks, so order an extra or two so you'll have spares on hand.

I have a ms3 sling and like it a lot, I just use it as a single point usually. I also have a vickers sling and it is awesome too. I really like the EXPS3 EOTech that I have. You can't go wrong with a low variable magnification scope though, just make sure it's good quality with good eye relief.

not sure , I'm gonna ask wolverine ,as that's where I ordered from. Turkeykillr said ctcs has them in stock also. I'm on my 4 th optic now, #1 red dot , great for close shots..#2 1x5 burris , not bad all around but found the reticle too thick... #3 cheap 3x9 , not good for close shots... # not sure yet but I'm looking at the sightron 1x7. The optics are the hardest to figure out :) . I've wasted money on the first 3 .

BCM toolless keymod vertical grip is what I would suggest. No rail section needed, is rock solid, and can be removed/moved without tools. Very cool design.

For a sling, pic up a Blue Force Gear VCAS from One Shot Tactical. It is a two point sling but you can purchase a "triglide" that converts it into a one point sling if you really think you want a sling that does both...if you PM Darren or call OSTS, they will hook you up with all of the necessary sling attachments.

Congrats on the purchase and enjoy it!

lots of good options here, my only 2 cents is this. How many rounds do you plan on shooting in one session? I have the keymod L heavy barrell and after a few mags the keymod forend gets very hot. I had a magpul short VG on it and it got too hot to handle. I switched to an AFG to get my hand off the rifle and now I can shoot all day without gloves. she still bakes tho. something to give some thought. try each out as I did it might be different for you. I bought a keymod rail section from wolverine and I can fit my AFG and a cheap ebay picatinney bi pod on one rail.

oh and X2 on the ms3 sling I love mine!
