1. it has ###x's on the but stock
and what does franknpinned mean?

2 i cant seem to get the bore clean!!

my friend and i bought surplus ammo and fired about 250 rounds through each yesterday and they worked fine just wondering if i get another what i should be looking for/to avoid?

any info is greatly appreciated

Good day Krypt. Check out the "Red Rifles" forum; all the information you need (and more) is there. I did the same thing when I got my SKS. I'd been to the range and with getting very busy, I forgot to clean it. WELL!! Didn't I have a mess on my hands. It took me a good 4 hrs to get it to where I was satisfied. The surplus ammo is very corrosive. Flush the barrel with boiling water, brush it, and then get a good bore solvent and just keep working at it until you get clean patches. Don't forget to clean the gas piston as well. I soaked mine in ammonia, and then cleaned it with 0000 steel wool. Let me know how you make out. Have a good weekend. Lawrence

Its a factory rebuild with ### over the old serial number, then new numbers forced matched onto the new parts. Frankinpinned is a term for pinning the magazine to not allow more than 5 rounds to comply with Canadian law

Use a brass brush, solvent, and elbow grease.

Look for chrome barrel and a healthy crown. Marstar has new Chinese ones for 200 bucks. They are not pretty like the Russian ones but they make a good shooter.

Does your SKS have serial numbers that end in 49, 50 or 51 ? Its sounds like you might have a older one, since your having that much difficulty cleaning the barrel. The newer models usually have a chrome lined barrel.

If your gun is a 49 or 50, then it will have a spring loaded firing pin, which is a good thing.

Chech out the serial numbers and let us know what the last 2 numbers say.

Yup, you can order a spring loaded pin from the states, just google it. However, there is really no point. As long as you keep the pin clean (take it apart and use a toothbrush and bore solvent) you will not have a problem. Cleaning it takes very little extra time (you have to pull the thing apart because of the corrosive ammo anyway) and you'd have to pay for a spring loaded pin.
