Buying barrels from Brownells

I'm sure this has been covered before, but it is buried somewhere in this forum. So, I'm thinking of buying a few barrels for my ARs and perhaps one for a BCL-102.

So, if there is anyone out there that has experience with doing this (importing barrels from Brownells) please chime in and let me know how much ass pain it is and how much its going to cost me above and beyond.
 
I believe barrels are classified as significant military equipment or something like that. You would have to pay a $250 fee. I think there's a bit of a wait as well. But I've heard that fee is good for one year so you could order muzzle brakes/flashes, upper receivers.
Best to contact Brownells as I may not be accurate in my description.
 
Here is an insert from a email I got last week from Brownells.

From: Regulated items must have an export license regardless of their value or quantities. Regulated items are: barrels, barrel liners, actions, receivers, frames, cylinders, flash hiders/suppressors. Also brass/bullets.

The export license application fee is now a flat rate of $250.00 regardless of the dollar value or quantities.

All you have to do is have Brownells ship the barrel of your choice to a US-based 3rd party importer such as A_____ Armoury. The $250 USD no longer applies because Brownells is not shipping outside of the US. You pay Brownells for domestic US shipping to the A_____ Armoury office in Yuma, AZ. You also pay A_____ Armoury their flat $35 CAD fee for a single part import, plus flat rate shipping to Canada, plus shipping from the A______ Armoury warehouse in Penticton BC to your door. That'said it, that's all.

A barrel cost me less than $75 CAD to import, which is cheap considering the alternative plus you'd still have to pay shipping from Brownells to your Canadian door. The process is greatly simplified if you send "Sandy", the nice Exports Coordinator at Brownells an e-mail explaining what you want to do, after she sends you the standard notice telling you that your order is ITAR controlled, subject to the $250 USD permit, etc. You don't need the permit because Brownells is shipping to A_____ Armoury's office in the USA. Easy Peasy....
 
Clay at Prophet is cheap. $25+GST(i.e. barrel, BCG, stripped upper receiver) for small parts and $50+GST for larger parts(i.e. uppers). Marshall is awesome too.

Az tech ar Mory can get you anything - regardless of whether they carry it or not. They will charge you 20% on top for that service though. IME.

My experience was slow but thorough and the goods arrived as described. I would probably try someone else next time. But I’d use AA if I had to.

Az tech only charges the extra 20% if you have them source a barrel from Brownells. If you have Brownells ship a barrel to Az tech's office in Yuma instead, there is no "sourcing fee" on top of the $35 CAD for the part importation.

Ha. They didn't offer that as an option to me. Would have done that for sure. Thanks - that might get me to use them in the future.
