I am hoping to buy a Glock 17 in the near future and am attracted to the under $500US price tag. I think they go for over $800CDN here (not sure exactly), plus shipping and tax. With the ITCan paperwork, exchange rate, duty and any other costs and hastles, would it still be worth considering? I'm thinkin NOT....any ideas would be helpfull.

You also require an export permit from the US. All in all it's a couple hundred dollars and 2 - 3 months waiting for paperwork approvals.... You're right. It's not worth it for a gun that is easy to come by in Canada.

If you are intertested in importing from the US go to www.questar.ca or click on their link at the top of this page. They offer an importing service.

IMHO the only reason I would be importing any gun would be if it were a model that was rare up here to start with. The cost of importing it then would be reasonable to me. The time you factor in shipping, taxes, duty on top of your fees I think you will find that buying one already here will give you more money for ammo so you can go shoot it.

I know people who go to the U.S. to buy a used car (say BMW), and import it to Canada. They tell me how much money they have saved. But if everybody does this......

Just a thought: could I go there and buy a house, and import it to Vancouver? Housing just costs too much here.

Having done it myself a couple o' times I'd have to disagree with all the nay sayers...
My guess is they've never actually done it.

Give us a ball park breakdown of the savings you made by buying stateside. I'm curious to know as I have attended many, many gunshows in the US and have always been envious of the attractive pricing down there.

667 show us the break down please. There is one gun I am looking at that I would really like to bring up and if you can show me it being reasonably affordable or cheaper I'll buy the coffee.

I heard that the shipping can be quite expensive. I was told there is only one (or very few) carriers who are willing to ship firearms. Is there any truth to this?
