I have my RPAL and already own a few handguns and have been out of the loop for a few years. I want to buy a handgun from a member, can someone give me some info on how to go about buying the gun. Currently I don't have a membership to a gun range but plan on getting one. Can I give him my RPAL number and buy the gun and then call CFO to register it when it arrives?

You need an ATT to buy any more handguns, you need a range membership to get an ATT. No ATT no new toys.......

OK, so I need to do this:

1. Get a range membership
2. Call CFO to let them know that I want to buy a gun with the serial number provided to transfer it to me
3. Seller gets the ATT to ship the gun

Anything else I need to know? Sorry for all the questions, I haven't bought a handgun for a few yeasrs and am not sure if anything has changed.

:welcome:

1 you get a membership to a pistol club
2 you send seller $ and your PAL#
3 seller calls CFC and initiates transfer then emails a reference # to you.
4 you call CFC and give them reference number to complete transfer, CFC asks you some questions and then transfers the file to your local CFO for approval.
5 you can call your CFO to see if the transfer has been approved or you can wait for your registration and LTATT to come in the mail.
6 once transfer has been approved seller obtains a STATT to take the restricted firearm to the post office
7 if the package arrives at your house and an adult is home to sign for it then you are done but if the postman leaves a card in your mailbox and you are required to pick up from the post office then contact your local CFO to arrange a STATT from said postal outlet to your home, usually valid for an hour or two depending on distance from your residence to the post office.

Added to step 4 would be providing proof of membership

Everything else, but 7 is correct. You do not need a STATT to take it home from the post office. It is just a parcel at that point, not a gun. It is covered by the seller's STATT until it reaches it's destination. That would be the address on the shipping label not the post office.

Think of it this way, that postman has no paperwork at all to drop of that package and most likely not even a PAL, so why would it be any different for you?

After reading the procedure to buy, transfer and ship the firearm it's a wonder the government does anything well.
The amount of people that handle the firearm(package) that most likely don't have a RPAL and the only requirement to deliver the package(firearm) is an adult's signature, it makes you wonder WTF.

bought a norc 9mm from a guy in ontario. about a week later i get home and there is a package ON MY DOORSTEP. I take it inside and sure enough there was my new gun! yes the system is flawed, my advice is learn the system so that you can exploit it where possible. You can try to change it, but our voices tend to fall on deaf ears.
