with our dollar at an all-time high, is it time to look at buying south-of-the-border?
is it difficult to bring a rifle back (mail order may be too expensive), but if you make a trip is there anything special about importing a rifle?

Good lord it's in the legalese section but
1) you can't buy it
2) you can't export it from the US
3) you can't just import it

There are a pile of procedures and paperwork to follow.. Look at the Questar website...

Just throwing something out here,A friend ( In the states) of mine is giving up shooting soon due to health and he said if I want them I could buy them. Is this even possible?

Yes, You need to contact someone who has connections to export firearms. That means they have an FFL, C&R, etc license. Then they need the correct export permits and a Canadian affiliate to import the firearms into Canada.

In general it cost approx $200 per gun to import. Not really, but that what they are cashing in on.

Questar can do it from what I have read. But so can Milarm, & P&S Militaria

In the furture, theres going to be a very big opportunity to bring surplus into Canada if the CDN dollar stabilizes. Cause there isn't much coming in from the rest of the world...

Questar just raised their prices for importation handling, I believe it is now nearly $300. That sort of negated the incentive to purchase in the US for me...

Hummm, paperwork hasn't gone up in processing costs? You know, I was just looking at the importation time frame 4 ti 8 weeks but it could be 4 months. Not worth the hassle, really.

BTW $295 per gun, $250 for everyone after that.

I've brought in a couple from the US. I buy them and have them shipped to Leroy's. Then Leroy's looks after getting the export permit and then ships it to one of their border locations where I pick it up and clear it through Cdn customs. Leroy's charges about $100 for everything. Ellwood Epps may still be doing this as well. Give them a call and talk to them.
