Reading the thread about Rem vs Savage,

it seems like the majority of Savage fans go with the BVSS rather than the FVSS. I wonder if that's true, and if so, what are the main differences between the two Savage models that make people decide one way or the other? They should both be equal out of the box for accuracy, shouldn't they?

It's not just a matter of esthetics. The laminate stock of the BVSS is much more rigid than the synthetic FVSS, and gives better shot to shot repeatability. It does weigh a lot, though.

Agreed that the synthetic stock is not the most pretty stock ever made. They do paint up very nicely and can be modified in a pinch to whatever shape you want. however, it will perform as well as the laminated stock if properly bedded and barrel channel opened up.

I would only buy the BVSS if I liked that particular shape (it is a nice one) as there are so many stocks to choose from.
