By Popular Demand: Remington's New 16" Model 700 AAC-SD in .300 Blackout!

Just another $$$ round for the commando wannabees!!!

Without a suppressor this round is no better then a nice 7.62x39 rifle/ammo combo.

.300 Blackout pros...

- it suppresses well...IF your using sub sonic rounds (hand loading or even more $$$ ammo)
- less issues when running in AR-15 platforms then x39 (but its really a crappy magazine and/or poorly made franken-gun issue!!!) - MOOT point as we cannot hunt with ARs here nor are you going to combat with it...
-You can pretend to be special forces at the range and impress the cool cats who hang out there!!!

.300 Blackout cons...

- $$$ ammo and brass
- almost no gun stores carry it..only a few online dealers do...and rarely, this is Canada after all!!!
- HAVE to reload if you wanna keep shooting it "cheap"
- Is ###

So taking all that...your getting this (silly) round...for a BOLT gun...that you cannot use a can on and any bolt gun worth more than $32 should feed rounds reliably. Get a .308Win and down load it if you want to shoot baby loads to save your shoulder and match this new poopy hipster round...you can do everything this round can do (not much) and more with it.

Wow, nice post full of respect for your fellow gun owners, and more so a vendor. Well done, I would tell you how wrong you are, but the vendor pays for thier place here.

Same size and weight s/a rifle as the .308 version...load .308 down to achieve the same results if recoil is an issue....

The 300 BLk has a faster twist rate than most factory 308s, 1-8 or 1-9 IIRC, needed to stabilize long heavy subsonic loads. There is a coolness to the chambering, but to niche for my blood. Maybe I'd we could own suppressors or hunt with ARs I'd be more interested in the 300

I am respecting the folk on this forum...I am telling them they can get a round that does the SAME STUFF...and MUCH more for cheaper. Your welcome.

ADDED -

I love guns, ammo and all that and do not care what people own/want/shoot...BUT if I can I'd like to make sure they can do it for cheaper and if possible "better" then they originally wanted such as in this case.

I love the gun the dealer is selling, just not in.300BLK.

Both cartridges are in classes of their own. What one will do effectively, the other will not. You clearly don't understand that or you wouldn't be making the assertions that you are. Yes, you can dumb down a .308 Win. but you typically get higher ES and SD velocities because of the relative inefficiency of the cartridge under those circumstances. Further, you simply won't be using +200gr. bullets in a .308 Win. in subsonic applications with standard for cartridge 1:12" twist barrels. If you're talking lighter weight bullets, then yes.

I wouldn't own a .308 Win. with a barrel length under 18"-20". You simply get far too much muzzle blast and noise for my liking with standard velocity/pressure ammunition.

No one would argue the versatility of a .308 Win. or the many advantages to owning one. I own several bolt guns of both the .300 Blackout and .308 Win. and not once did I ever think I was needlessly duplicating what I already have.

It's OK that you don't want or need a .300 Blackout. Like other intermediate .30 cal. cartridges, it's not for everyone. Having said that, you don't need to piss on the Corn Flakes of others who do.

Please tell me about all these needed subsonic applications Canadians will be needing a gun that can do that for? It is still too loud for constant use without hearing protection, and we are not allowed to use suppressors. And for hunting...I'd rather shoot a slightly lighter round going much faster.

No one is suggesting anyone hunt with subsonic ammunition or that is all the Blackout is capable of. That's your assumption - not anyone else's. Yes, you certainly can do so, but it's not ideal. The Blackout has the same ballistics as a 7.62x39mm in supersonic applications. I think few would argue it's merits in short to medium range applications.

As for wanting to shoot subsonic ammunition there are plenty of valid reasons to do so. You definitely don't need to own a suppressor to take advantage of noise reduction. While you you do still need hearing protection, there's no question that subsonics are noticeably less noisy than supersonic ammunition. Using fast burning pistol/shotgun powders in subsonic centerfire cartridges produce far less noise than typical rifle powders while attaining similar velocities. A bolt gun is particularly well suited because you aren't worried about generating enough gas pressure to cycle the action of a semi-automatic firearm.

The most quiet Blackout load I've developed is 5.0gr. of Trail Boss with a 90gr. Hornady XTP bullet. It's about as noisy as standard velocity .22RF ammunition. Is that quiet enough for you?

Once again, if you were fully versed on the topic you would have known this already. Before commenting on this again, perhaps you might want to have a little first hand knowledge of what it is you're talking about.

has anyone found sound level stats. for this for subsonic and supersonic? everything US is with a suppressor, trying to decide if either would be usefull enough for deer hunting in rural areas by being quieter
is the Rem. 7 version of this available in Canada? where?

The gun shoots quieter with subsonic ammo yes...but it is by NO means quiet. If your deer hunting that is what 1-2 shots at most? Don't worry about it.

Shot the round many times. Its fun as its a gun...but its just an expensive x39...that extra 5% give or take between the 2 rounds means little in real applications.

That is cool...your taking a mid powered round and downloading it...sure it is quieter (and .22LR is still LOUD and can be heard from far away) but its also weaker. I can make mouse fart rounds too but why get a gun in _____ calibre to download it to something lesser? Just get something lesser if thats your goal. Shoot .38Spl from a rifle if you want something "weaker" and quieter...cheaper to boot too.

X2

Now if only someone was bringing in Factory .300blackout/.300whisper ammo for those of us that don't reload

Oh and jeffcarr88, take a deep breath and... take your attitude to your own thread, here'd be Wanstalls house.

This thread went down hill pretty fast. Maybe we should get things back on track? I like the rifle, my local shop has one in and it's cool to play with. I would love to own one because I like the idea of a neat new caliber. A buddy of mine owns this rifle with a vortex viper pst 1-4 on it. It's quite the cool gun, and he hunts deer and small game with it. Very very cool
