BYF 42 K98 Sporter 30/06 conversion

I recently obtained a BYF 42 Sporter conversion 30/06.

The rifle is in excellent shape, with all matching numbers with what is left after the gunsmith got a hold of it.

I do not know what the 2 holes in the right side of the rear receiver are for, along with the walnut stock cut out....

Anyone out there with any experience or ideas? I don't mind it....just want to know what it is for.

The holes are for a peep sight mount someone removed.Just put threaded filler plugs in them.

looks like someone had built themselves a fine hunting rifle, Ebony caps, nice quality rifle. Looks real nice, JA must be the gunsmith who done the work.

It looks like a diopter sight cut-out that you would find on a Danish M69. Beautifully done rifle.
